Fundamentals I Workshop
Lay the groundwork for good alignment and efficient movement with these "pre-Pilates" exercises and fundamental concepts for proper joint mechanics. The basic fundamental exercises help increase body awareness with movement and can help you teach your clients how to find and feel the right stuff. Learn basics for breathing, strengthening the pelvic floor, spine stabilization, spine movement - flexion, extension and rotation, and hip flexion as applicable to the basic Mat exercises.
Course Description:
This course is designed to teach a variety of fundamental exercises to assist clients in better understanding movement & stabilization principles as well as begin to explore & increase their awareness of proper muscle firing patterns. Through a better understanding of these fundamental exercises instructors can assist clients in learning to identify and strengthen the correct muscle groups to facilitate safe and appropriate movement as taught by the Pilates system
Course will include the following:
- Fundamental "pre-Pilates" exercises for functional stabilization & mobilization of the spine, hips & shoulders. (applicable to the beginner Pilates Matwork).
- Breathing techniques & a system of teaching proper breath mechanics to assist safe and supported movement.
- Guidelines for teaching, cueing, and spotting clients to assist them in understanding proper posture & correct muscle firing patterns to assist with joint stabilization and facilitate efficient movement.

Learning Objectives
At the completion of this course, participants will have:
- Experienced fundamental "pre-Pilates" exercises and understand how these exercises can benefit clients and transfer to learning the Pilates Matwork and/or facilitate proper movement for injury prevention & rehabilitation.
- Knowledge of correct technique for all exercises learned. This includes proper execution, correct breathing patterns, & recommended repetitions.
- Awareness of cueing and spotting techniques to effectively explain the exercises
- General guidelines for identifying which exercises can best benefit a specific client's needs.
- Understand how to incorporate the exercises learned into an exercise or rehabilitation program, and safely progress clients into more challenging work.
- With additional practice and preparation, participants have the knowledge to effectively teach fundamental exercises to a client or class, facilitating functional strength, flexibility and establishing safe & effective movement habits.
